For any that may be interested, John I Monell is listed as a silversmith at 238 Orange in the 1827
New York City Directory published by Thomas Longworth. There is mention of a John I Monell marrying
Catherine Morrell in the Ladies Literary Cabinet Volume 1 published in 1819 by Woodworth & Heustis.
Both of these volumes are available on Google books.

John I Monell is also listed in Longworth's American Almanac, New-York Register and City Directory
for 1829 as a silversmith at 242 Orange.

A John I Monell who was born in New York state in about 1796 and wife Catherine are listed in the
1850 Census for Philadelphia. John's occupation at the time is given as refiner of gold & silver.

From what I can gather, it is my opinion that this gentleman left New York City to work at the Philadelphia
mint by at least the late 1830's , and he was the superintendant there by the mid 1850's .

It is not difficult to find on google that James and William Kirkham were in business together in 1858 as jewelers in Springfield, Massachusetts. I can add that their partnership is listed in the 1857 and 1858-'59 Springfield directories.

To add to an earlier post in this thread concerning Ahrendt & Kautzman, William G Ahrendt died in Newark, New Jersey in 1932. The partnership of Ahrendt & Taylor Co, Inc that succeeded Ahrendt & Kautzman continued at least into the early 1940's with Andrew A Taylor as the president & treasurer, Frieda Ahrendt (widow of William G) as vice president and Alice Taylor (wife of Andrew A) as secretary.

I am the great, great, great granddaughter of Felix Thibault, Philadelphia silversmith and jeweller.
He was born March 11, 1791 in Sete Rose de Le'ogame, Saint Domingue (Haiti). He died November 3, 1841 in Philadelphia, Pa. Brothers Francis (born 9-18-1787) and Frederick (born 12-8-1788) were also silversmiths in Philadelphia. Of all the silversmiths of French origin in that city, only the Thibaults had three generations in the craft.
