C J Vander Ltd Workshops-- 1968

Postby dognose » Wed Aug 05, 2009 5:23 am

This is a link to an old British Pathe short film of the workshops of C J Vander Ltd.

C J Vander Ltd own the dies of many famous silversmithing firms including those of Eley, Fearn & Chawner, Chawner & Co., William Eaton, Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater, Francis Higgins & Sons Ltd, Atkins Brothers and Roberts & Belk.

You will need 'Adobe Flash 10' to view this short film, this one does have sound.
If you do not have this application just follow the prompts to download.

Thanks Trev. I hadn't seen this. Think I may have spotted Alan in the workshop, if I am right about how he would have looked 40 years ago.

The C J Vander inherited dies are now at Wakeley and Wheeler which has been spun off to continue as a maker at a small workshop in Essex. Jeff Francis is the spoonmaker there, with one apprentice who has probably just about completed his apprenticeship now. When I visited the workshop a month or two ago he was about to start on his "masterpiece" - a giant spoon.

Best wishes

David
