London Assay Office--1967

This is a link to an old British Pathe short unfinished film taken at the London Assay Office in 1967.

I think we are probably lucky to see this film of the processes at the London Assay Office as it looks as if it was condemmed to the cutting room floor. British Pathe seem unaware of the date and location, but the clues are there including the striking of the London date letter for 1967.

Another confirmation that this is the London office can be found by comparing the image of the gentleman taking the scrape for the assay, a photo of this same gentleman at work can be found in the foreground on page 300 of J S Forbes's book 'Hallmark - A History of the London Assay Office'.

I'll bet you'll wince when he takes the hammer to beaker with spurious marks!
