What-is-it question LXXII.

This item was made by the Webster Company, North Attleboro, Massachusetts (c.1915).
It's 3 1/8 inches (8.13 cm.) wide.
What was it used for?

Wev, no, this was not meant to be used in a bar fight,
Waylander, no, it's not a "knuckle duster".

Byran, it was not used to hang something up in a baby cradle, but your headed in the right direction.

It does not hold diapers.
Remember, it's only 3 1/8 inches (8.13 cm.) wide.

Hi,

Since it has a Jack and Jill motive, maybe something to do with water?
Or toothing rings?

Nothing to do with water or toothing (teething?) rings.
It's purpose does involve something else that was used with infants.

Do you string it with bungee cords to restrict how far a child can go?

Hello Kit.

That's a great idea, but it's not what this was intended for,

This would have been used by someone caring for an infant.
Don't need them anymore because the items it was used with are no longer used this way.

Hello Miles.

Good question. A ribbon is threaded through an opening in those two stubs and then attached to an apron or other clothing.
Here's a picture of another one that shows the openings better.

Well done Tom.
Yes, these kept different sizes of safety pins seperated.
Don't need them today because disposable diapers use tape.
