Plated Tongue Wellner

Post by silverfan »

I often saw this item and thought it to be a spaghetti tongue. But it is actually not. Does anybody know the purpose?

Hello, this came out in 1933 under the name of "Alfess" and was offered as an all-purpose serving piece, eggs certainly being one possibility. It was one of three out-of-the-ordinary serving pieces made by Wellner at that time, the other two being "Backess" for cookies and "Spargess" for asparagus. Who came up with those names ? In German they sound just as silly as they probably do in other languages. Regards, Bahner
