What the heck was this Sterling item used for? *FIXED*

Post by SterlingRookie »

Hello everyone, here I have a mysterious sterling object. I was able to figure out via this website that the item is made by John Hasselbring (Brooklyn, NY). However I cannot figure out what the item is exactly. John Hasselbring's items are usually drink/food related, so I was thinking that would be a hint but after a while of research, I was thinking it is either a flower frog or a potpourri bowl. I'm not confident in either of those guesses tho because the gaps between the webbing seem to large to be a flower frog and too plain to be a potpourri. I have not been able to find an exact match even with knowing manufacturers "1" stamp on it which I thought was odd too. The item in question has a 3.75" diameter and also bears a mark on the bottom of the webbing piece that reads "US. PAT. AUG. 1936". Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

If you search using the Patent date only, you will find cigar ashtray listings. I’m not certain that is correct, but that’s what I’m finding.
Cheers!
