What was this box used for?

HI ALL

What was this wooden lined box used for? It has 3 compartments & is hallmarked for William Comyns London 1902.

Thanks HK. But are you sure? As a stamp collector I've seen my fair share of stamp boxes & they are always slanted downwards on one side while this box has curved inserts. Also stamp boxes are usually divided in equal proportions but not always.

So any other thoughts?

What are the dimensions?

The dimensions are 7 1/2 cm long, 11 1/2 cm wide & 3 1/2 cm tall. I might also add that the inside has a powder like smell

Stams are what came to my mind before reading any of the replies, Not any other uses I can expect a woman to have used back then.
