What was this holder used for? It measures 7 cm tall, 7 ½ cm wide & is hallmarked for Daniel & John Wellby London 1907.

Two possibilities:

Either it is a frame to hold a glass or ceramic vase insert.

Or:

A support for an emu egg... :)
