unknown spits

Postby R ingo » Fri Aug 01, 2014 4:59 pm

Hello,

has someone an idea about the function of this spits? Are this meat spits? The spits are ca. 22 cm long.

Kind regards,
Ringo

Yes, these are meat skewers. There' s a similar set in the 1925/26 Musterbuch (pattern book) for WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) of Germany. Yours are not WMF, but I think they're the same item:

Hello DianaGaleM,

I thank you very much. I have never seen such skewers bevore.
I have googeld "hatelets en argent" and I found a lot of more or less similar skewers now (from the 18th to the 20th century, solid silver and silver plated).
It seems to me, that the type with a ring was used mostly in France and the type with eyelet in England.

Kind regards,
Ringo
