What was this used for?

Hello

What was this John Edward Bingham, Walker & hall Sheffield 1882 piece with serrated top used for? It measures 6 cm tall.

Perhaps it’s a egg holder?

It looks like a sherbert base, it would have a glass insert ( think wine glass with a short broken stem).

Thanks Jl.

As the bowl is only 1 1/2 cm deep it would be kind of unstable to have any glass insert & eat from it too but it might be possible.

The glass would have been deeper and wider, like an old-style champagne glass. the upper part of your piece would have just been for support.
