What-is-it question CXCXIII

Stretching things with this one as the device was nickel plated only, but what was its intended use?

Hi,

No, not shooting elastics. The device, although to me seemingly fairly impractical, was apparently useful as it was patented in 1912 and the advertisement that I took it from was dated 1921, so presumably it had some popularity.

I know exactly what it is. A fly squisher. You put something attractive to a fly on it, and when he lands you pull the trigger, and squish.
I really know that is what it is, but just in case, my fallback position is a nasal passage enlarger.

I bought something, not so long ago, that I thought the mark was one country because of a published attribution. I then took a lot of time proving that the attribution was wrong, thereby decreasing the value by half.
My question to my wife was whether I should sell the piece on the QT or tell what I found.
My wife said if I had to choose between being rich or right, I would choose right.
So I have to admit I was joking. I had no idea that is what it was. As for the nasal passage enlarger that is what I always say when my wife asks what something is.
As usual it earned me a whack on the head when I suggested it this time.
I guess that even if you invent a better fly trap, people will not beat a path to your door.
