Described as a 'Champagne Protector', this device was designed to seal and retain the gas from a previously opened Champagne bottle.
It was designed and patented around 1907 by Carl Otto Schmidt of Bremen, who manufactured it out of 900/1000 silver. The device won prizes at the Brussels and Madrid exhibitions of 1908.
