What-is-it question CLXXXXIV
A mystery item found in an American catalogue from 1900.
The item is 2" (5cm) across.
Any thoughts?

Could it be a decanter label? Although the chain is a bit short. Perhaps for a decanter with a small round neck and a square body.

Hi Oel,
No, although very similar in looks to a decanter label/bottle ticket, this item had a totally different use.
However, I would not be surprised if some of these had ended up in the collections of those.

Looks like a coat/cloak - hanger/tag/marker, the owner's initials or name would have been engraved on the plate and then stitched inside the coat, below the back of the collar.

Hi Cheryl,
You've done it again! Yes, it's a coat hanger.

The image was from Sears, Roebuck & Co.'s Fall catalogue 1900.
