Recently got given this and have little knowledge and was wondering if anyone could help me identify the person in the portrait and also the age of the cameo.

I am unsure if the clasp was added on later so not sure if it was a medal or a brooch as the cameo is quite large.

Yes,it was a brooch;needle attachmenets were removed from the back side of brass mounting and clasp wisely ``soft`` soldered (tin) otherwise the cameo would crack if overheated.It is 19th century Victorian piece,nicely carved, probably depicting a loving person, but we will never know unless you search for a celebrity at the time;also common in Biedermeier period.
