Several, generally in rough condition, up for auction now.

Even when I enlarge the picture, I can't make out the lettering.
Do see ACK... , but can't match that to a tobacco manufacturer.

Here is a Barron's Patent Filler c 1911. From the advertisements, the tobacco cartridges were offered in Craven Mixture (95 cents/1/4 lb) and Black Cat Mixture (45 cents/1/4 lb).

Just curious, why would such a container have vents? I would have thought the object was to keep the tobacco moist.

The lid is solid; the vented part was hinged so a moist paper could be inserted behind it.

My guess there is a humifying agent (stone or sponge) beteen the panel with holes and an outside solid panel.
