"Made in Italy" Unidentified item help.

Hi!

I have this item and I have NO idea what it is or even if it's silverplated or not. It has three pieces, one of them being plastic and has a marking with the letters P and M, and it says "Made in Italy". I need help identifying this item, the year of fabrication, identifying the marking, and if it's silverplated or not. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am very curious to know what it is!!! Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum.

I don't know what your item is, but it would appear to be internationally used as this post has a similar piece that was made in Japan.

Hello.

Not sure there is a connection, but your mark is similar to one used by Cosi Tabellini on pewter. Check here:

It's a butter curler dish - you fill the top partway with softened butter or margarine, then push it over the domed piece and decorative butter-curls are formed, ready to serve from the dish after being chilled, and kept cool by placing ice in the bottom piece. Believe they may still be made, but most date to the mid 20th century.

Thanks to everyone who responded. Cheryl, you don't know how happy I am to know what this is!!! We've been looking everywhere and no one knew. We even thought it was, somehow, a cookie cutter. Do you know the maker by the marking on the bottom?
