OK, I give up. What are they? They look like a miniature version of what an Ice man uses to deliver big blocks of ice. Are they for sugar cubes or something? They are springloaded to stay open.

They are marked STERLING and the mark for Lunt Silver on one side, and 102 on the other.

What a kind of crazy coincidence:

Mysterious objects: A replica in Sterling, of an American lead bullets (gauge: 102) making tool for muzzleloaders, introduced as remembrance of the glorious American history (e.g. Williamsburg), and newly destinated for use as sugar tongs.

It has need a while, because I'm not an American, or living in the States, then I wrote an e-mail to Lunt, when I've found out their identity, history and address.

After some days of hope, that their company's PR department would or could find out the origin, I've got many times repeated the following message:

Don't believe that there is any mystery here, they are tongs intended for use in picking up sugar cubes, modelled on ice tongs used to pick up blocks of ice. It was a nod to the resemblance of the sugar cubes to a block of ice, virtually everyone of the time would have seen the iceman using similar tongs in the full-size version. These were a fairly common novelty item from the early 20th century, have seen several over the years, believe all bore Rogers, Lunt & Bowlen mark from 1902-35.

Maybe I’m not the only one who couldn’t “see” after 28 July the full pictures?

Hello all

I’m so sorry for my wrong interpretation of the ice-tongs mystery.

When I first saw the topic, I haven’t seen the right side (front part) — and that problem still resisted on my screen. Of course, I haven’t actually a so called »wide screen« or »16:9« one.

In these days in a shop I’ve made a screen test; by use of the »925-1000« forums website.

Then I saw, that the picture is bigger as only until the shanks cross point — and that the little bowls for the finger tips aren’t dies for making lead bullets!
