Eight Inches Long, Engraved, Marked N.M

Postby silverly » Thu Jul 15, 2010 1:19 pm

It would be very interesting to find out anything at all about this item, but to be honest, I'm not very hopeful. I know what it was labeled when I bought it in Intercourse, Pennsylvania yesterday, but it would be interesting to hear what others may think of it befoer passing that on. It is about twenty centimeters or eight inches long, hand engraved and marked N.M. Thank you all in advance.

Please would you show a backside photo. Thanks!

Kind regards silverport

I will hold any comment on your identification of this item for now. There's nothing significant on the back that I could find. There are some lightly scratched initials or something of that sort. I'm not really sure if it is even silver.

Silverport, you were on to something with the bobby pin idea. Thanks for your input. This item was labeled as a hair holder when purchased. I'm not exactly sure how it might have worked in that regard, but I can see it being used as a decorative item for a woman with long hair.

I wonder if such items were worn with the silver Italtian hair pins 'sperada'.

There have been a couple of posts regarding these pins in the past, but with the search facility temporarily unavailable, I can't find them.

If you google 'sperada' there are images of these pins.

Thanks Trev. It was worth a look. I kind of thought that there might be a German connection because I bought this in a Pennsylvania Dutch area, but I haven't come up with anything conclusive yet.
