This little item is marked sterling, no maker's mark. It was sold as a wine taster but I don't think that's correct. It is 1-7/8" in diameter (without handle) and is 3/8" tall. The hole in the handle makes it look as though it was made to hang on a chain. Or it could be a salt cellar or a toy porringer. Or ???

Hi Muraille,

I did wonder if, due to its size, that it may be for tea tasting, but that beaded edge does not appear to make for comfortable drinking.

Regards Trev.

I agree re the beaded edge, that's why I though it couldn't be a wine taster. How about a tea caddy "spoon"? Also, I wondered whether it might not be a chatelaine item - maybe there should be a mirror in it?

You were sold a wine taster as you first suggested to give it, it`s proper name which is a "Tastevin" the hole in the handle part is for a chain to hang around a Sommeliers neck,
A sommelier is a wine Waiter/Steward it is the typical size and shape
