This sterling piece is a variation of the toast-rack.
Made by Patrick Robertson, Edinburgh, 1773.
Currently resides in the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh.

This piece derives it's name from the food that it held. What is it called ?

HI Larkfield.

You have the right idea.
The item we are looking for was originally defined as "flat roundish unleavened cakes of oatmeal or barley-meal".
I believe the word is Scottish in origin.
