What-is-it question CXIII.

This sterling silver device was made by Dominick & Haff, Newark, New Jersey, about 1878.
This item is 4.5 inches (11.43 cm.) long, 2.375 inches ( 6.03 cm.) wide and .625 inches ( 1.59 cm.) deep.

This Judaica piece could be used to perform two functions, what were they?

It is a gragger (noise-maker)and whistle used during Purim. Interesting to see one made in the States, most during that period would have been made in eastern Europe.

Heh, looked at the piece and thought, "Well, that's a fancy little New Year's whistle and noisemaker.", then saw "Judaica" and moved on.....
