1892 Barker Bros. Box - What's was it used for?

Hello,

I'm wondering what this Box was used for. Measures 2" 1/2 tall 3" 1/2 wide "2 1/2 deep. Has a place to engrave on both sides. Seems an awkward shape for a trinket or jewlrey box. Wondering if it was used for cigarrettes? (it's electroplated Britannia).

Any insight would be much appreciated.

My guess would be a ring box.
Kind of small for cigarettes.
