Roger Williams Silver Co - here's a tough one

Postby Jag » Mon Sep 17, 2012 12:56 pm

The sleuths here are obviously too good. Hopefully this will be more of a challenge.

Two spoons in the same pattern, one is marked by Roger Williams Silver Co (Note to admin - this is a better mark than you have online, so feel free to steal this).

No sterling mark, so it probably isn't silver, though the smaller spoon feels like real silver (famous last words, yes)?

What do you think?

That's the Louvre pattern, introduced in 1907, by silverplate manufacturer Williams Bros. Mfg. Co. (no connection to Roger Williams Silver); it was also produced under a few other silverplate manufacturer's names.

Whoops! OK, that's embarassing. I just got a copy of the Rainwater book, and was happy when I found the mark in the book after not finding it in the marks here. Unfortunately I didn't notice that the marks in the book were after the description and not before. So, clearly I have the wrong manufacturer and it is silverplate.

I'll keep trying ...

Hi Jag,

Don't be embarrassed, you're not alone with making that mistake. If I've done that once, I've done it a dozen times. There's something about the layout of Rainwaters that leads me in the wrong direction time after time.

Here's an example: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=14405&p=32318

Regards, Trev.
