Van Etten & Co spoon - pattern?

Postby scarlette » Sat Nov 28, 2009 5:54 pm

I purchased this spoon out of an antique store's "junk box" and I was wondering about the pattern and the maker. The marking on the back is slightly worn down but looks like "Swinson, Van Etten, & Co" or possibly Swinton or Simpson? There are also what look to be 4 numbers after the name that I cannot make out (Sorry no picture of the back...I tried but I can't get it to show up on my camera). I searched online for any information about this company and came up with nothing. I did find that it either is or looks very similar to the 'Yale' pattern which I found at this link: (admin edit - see Posting Requirements )

The Yale pattern is noted to be made by Wm Rogers, however, and not S----on, Van Etten & Co. So, did Wm Rogers and Van Etten merge or something? I am really at a loss. Any info would be helpful!! Thank you so much

I forgot I did find one sentence online that said this: "SWINTON, VAN ETTEN and Co. (USA ?) Manufactured silver cutlery.
