Help to determine style of Reed and Barton Spoon

Postby bobtobbs » Sun Dec 14, 2008 4:47 pm

I have a Reed and Barton spoon that measues 10 1/4" overal length. The handle is 5 1/4" long. The stem and spoon is 5" long. Reed and Barton 12 is the only identifing marks. This ID is located on the stem. I was not able to take a very good of the ID mark so I did not include one. The handle is very ornate. At the begining of the hanlde there is a face (face is on both sides of the handle). I think the spoon is silver plated. I could not find any sterling designation on the spoon.
What is this spoon used for?
What is the style / pattern of this piece?

Thanks for your help.

Hello. What a lovely piece of Reed and Barton. I believe it is in a pattern called "Renaissance" circa 1886. This is a multi-motif pattern. From your photo, it looks like your piece is a cheese scoop.
