None of my resource books show this lovely, Towle pattern. It was patented Aug. 6, 1887. Does anyone know this one? Thanks so much!

That is quite pretty, I don't find it in my references either, so would guess that it was not a full-line pattern. Interestingly, the only Towle patent I find for that date is #D17637 (issued to E.J. Stanton, assigned to Towle) for the engraved Clover pattern - makes me wonder if the date refers to the engraved design on the tines rather than the handle pattern.

Cheryl, thank you so much for your reply. We had the same thought, that it might not be a fulll line. If I may ask. How do you check for a ptatent with just a date and name as you did with this? The only way I know to check a patent is if I have the number.

Thank you again for getting back to me.

You can go to google patents and use their advanced search, can also use the advanced search function on the patent office site, pre-1976 searches are limited though. I enjoy trolling through the google site, but it does have numerous spelling errors and gaps.
