Reed & Barton Pattern Identification

Postby Hamilton » Fri Feb 01, 2008 1:25 am

Hi guys,

I'm new to these forums and I am amazed by the wealth of information available here. The reason I'm posting is to ask for help identifying and dating a Reed & Barton pattern. I have a tea set that is clearly marked as Reed & Barton silver plate, but I know nothing about how their patterns relate to manufacture date. The pattern is stamped as 1790, but I'm very curious about the date range it might have been made during and if it has any pattern name.

I've spent hours on the web trying to research this, but have come up empty. I'm not interested in its value at all, just the time period. I also have a matching waste bowl that is not pictured. If anyone knows of a R&B guide that relates patterns to dates, that would be an incredible resource.

I really appreciate your help on this. I hope to start collecting some early 19th century american silver pieces and learning as much as I can about antique silver.
