Glass Liners for Silver?

Postby jackk » Thu Jan 15, 2009 11:01 am

Hi, I am sure this is the issue many collectors and dealers struggled with. Almost every month I am getting a piece of silver that is missing a glass liner. Sometimes, this missing part substantially depreciates the value of the item. Finding a glass replacement is very difficult, sometimes impossible. Having a replaced glass is better than no glass at all.
I know that there are glass shops in europe that can produce a matching glass liner (costly), but are there any glass shops in USA (New York area) that can do that as well? Any help will be appreciated.
If this is not the right forum please move this post elsewhere.

Thanks,
Jack

jack -

best thing to do is to get precise sizes and leave them at your trusted antiques dealers.

there is a british company that supplies liners - very expensive, beginning their eBay auctions at almost USD30. they have an enormous supply - i am betting they do a tidy business.

Pairpoint Glassworks will hand blow liners in any color for open salts, ice buckets, casseroles, etc. They do excellent work and prices are very reasonable.
