Help with soldering please

Post by buff »

A friend of mine has a sterling silver plated tea pot which he dropped and jarred a piece off. I have experience soldering. I am wondering if I can get some silver solder from the hardware store and solder it back together with a small iron. The main thing I am concerned about is over heating the piece and leaving a dark spot. Any advice?

Unless Brittania metal, it is hard solder torch work, suggest you seek out a professional.

Hi,

Silver solder needs temperatures much higher than the average soldering iron can handle, you need an open flame with plenty oxygen. I wouldn't recommend it on silverplate.
I would take Tom's advice.
