Hallmark indentification: bolo tie in Hopi style

Postby carroll » Sun Aug 01, 2010 7:23 pm

I have an American Indian bolo tie in the Hopi style that I purchased from 10 -- 20 years ago at Bien MUR Indian Market in Albuquerque, New Mexico. At the time the maker was well-known and was featured in a glossy magazine of New Mexico jewelry. I have forgotten his name, and remember only that he was an instructor of jewelry making at a community college, perhaps in Albuquerque.

Attached is a photo of the front of the bolo, and the hallmark on the rear is shown in the second photo. The largest dimension of the (right) edge is about 2.5 inches.

Who is the maker?

Thank for your reply. I thought that when a reply came to my message, I would received an email message to notify me. Having no message, I neglected to check the forum until now.

I don't know if Chalmers Day is the maker of my bolo tie, but your link makes it seem likely.

Thank you for the information.

BTW, did you recognize the hallmark or the style of the tie?

P.S.

When I wrote that "I don't know if Chalmers Day is the maker of my bolo tie", I should have written that this is true only from my own memory.

I did not mean that your info is suspect. I apologize if this is the impression that I gave by my faulty language.

Thank you again for you info.

Hello.

Here's a scan from Barton Wright's book "Hallmarks of the Southwest".
One of Chalmer Day's mark looked similar to your mark.
I'm not sure it's the same, just offering a possibility.

The style of your piece does remind me of his work.

Pat.
