Unknow Maker on Sterling Cream/Gravy Ladle

Postby silvercrown » Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:48 am

I have this lovely little sterling ladle, but cannot identify the maker or country of origin. I hope someone can help. It is marked "S925" with the maker's mark shown in the photos. Thanks!

I have an almost identical ladle and have seen matching tea-spoons with various marks - so my guess is it was for sugar. They come from Peru - my piece is marked "STERLING PERU 925 ARIAS" and I suspect it was made c.1950. I'm afraid I know of no reference for 20th century Peruvian silver marks.

I would never have thought Peru. Thank you for the information.

S925 usually identifies China. But, it also can mean Scandinavian. Which is what yours must be. Although it sounds reasonable, "s" does not stand for sugar. Marks on silver only refer to makers, dates, countries/cities of origin, & silver content.

Whoops!! S925 is China! 925S is Scandinavia. Sorry!
