Need help with charm necklace mark - AG90

Postby karenjohn193 » Mon Oct 03, 2005 5:20 pm

I am looking for any information I can get on the mark I have on a charm necklace. Isaw that there were 2 danish makers with "AG" but my mark says "AG90". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My guess is that AG means "argent" ie silver, and 90 means 90% pure. Your piece has a South American feel - perhaps Ecuador or Peru etc. If so there is little regulation of silver and marks can mean what you want them to mean!

I just joined the group and recognize this silver pin with collection of charms from Brazil. The story I was told:
It represents silver gifts that were given to slaves who could save them until there was enought value to purchase their freedom. Different fruits, gourds, "figa" raised fists and other traditonal pieces are used. Hope this helps, later.
