Arts & Crafts style silver teapot with unknown mark

Postby syarn01 » Wed Aug 03, 2022 9:03 pm

I just picked this up at a local auction and it's found a great place in our house. It measures 4.5" tall and 8.75" in total length. My guess is that it's from around 1900 and coin silver; maybe from the US...it looks A&C or Edwardian to me. Can anyone teach me anything else about it from the tiny, indiscernible (to me) mark? thanks

I don’t really know anything about this item, but maybe Colon, Panama is some place to start.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes, typical of South American marking. Compare with examples here:

Ah, thank you both for setting me on the right course. Will be fun to see what I can learn about it.

'Colom' is likely an abbreviation of Colombia...

I was thinking the same, dragonflywink. The shield pattern seemed to be used there from what I could find. Does anyone want to venture a guess as to when it was made? It seems 1900-ish to me by the look of the mark and the overall design. Was it maybe earlier or later? thanks

Personally, not seeing anything particularly dististinctive about it - would guess early to mid 20th century...

That makes sense to me. Thanks again for all the help. I'll see if I ever stumble across the same mark in my search so I can learn more.
