Looking for Info on HP Elias Spoon

Postby MarasSilver » Thu Oct 25, 2007 4:56 pm

Hello! I found this spoon at an estate sale and haven't been able to find any info on an H.P. Elias - I'm hoping someone maybe able to help me out on this.
Thanks very much!

The only reference I could find in my source books was in Kovel's book on American Silversmiths, but unfortunately, it says "location unknown". They do put an estimated date for this person at c. 1840, which would be consistent with the style of your spoon.

I should have added that the style of your spoon indicates that the piece was probably made in the Midwest; it's known as the Midwestern Fiddle pattern, and it really dates more to the 1850's-1860's. I did find one reference on another site to a similar spoon by HP Elias, which had a monogram that included a reference to Cincinnati, so it may well have been an Ohio Valley area maker.
