Wyman & Huntington 1700's spoon?

Postby GuywithanEye » Thu Mar 29, 2007 4:02 am

I just got a pair of these spoons and haven't been able to identify, any help would be great.
The marks appear to be a "D" then next one maybe an Eagle? Then what looks like the tax stamp for 1785 London?

Marks

I see these marks on a lot of what I think to be american silver. Is there anything they are indicative of? I look forward to any help on this.

They (and their like) are marks used by wholesale manufacturers, mostly from New York state area. Some people claim to have established the identity of many of these firms, but actual evidence is seldom offered and I believe most of it is just guesswork and wishful thinking.

Charles Wyman's son John D Wyman was in business at his fathers address 119 Main, St Albans, Vermont with Benjamin B Perkins in 1895-'6.
The name of their business was Wyman & Perkins. Charles Wyman died in 1897.
