Huge old ladle coin unknown marks

Postby joolcrzy » Mon Mar 05, 2007 5:08 pm

Hello,
I got this 12" long heavy ladle several days ago and have spent hours trying to identify the marks. The center mark appears to be initials I.D.,
then in above and below are what look like moths or butterflies.
any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry if the pictures are too big!
Thanks
Andrea

From the style of the maker's mark it looks French to me.

I've found nothing on the mark in American sources. As Paul noted, the style of the maker's mark does look French, considering the other marks and the style of the piece, this may well point to a Canadian origin.
