Coin silver shovel spoon JM in oval stamp-Maker?

I'm not sure but believe this spoon is late colonial/Federal period. American coin silver. Approximately 5 in long. Can someone help with the maker? JM in oval stamp. Thank you in advance.

Perhaps:
J. Merchant wc 1795 NY, NY

but it sorta looks newer than that.... i.e. your font looks newer
