J. B. Shepard, Who Was This Silversmith

I just bought this and I am curious who the maker is. Once we have it figured out, I would like to submit it to the database! Maker mark consists of "J. B. SHEPARD" with a "P" a "⭐️" and an Eagle. Thanks for the help you guys!

McGrew's 'Manufacturers' Marks on American Coin Silver' (2004) attributes those pseudo-marks to John O. & Walter Pitkin of East Hartford, CT [partnership 1830-40], noting use by retailer J.B. Shepard, with no further information...

John Shepard jeweller appears in the 1836 Longworth's American Almanac, New York Register and City Directory at 149 Reade.

The death of a John Shepard is reported in the 1841 "The New World" on 11 October 1841 at Canajoharie, Montgomery County formerly of Hartford, Connecticut of the firm of Grinnell & Shepard of this city.

I don't know if these are the same gentleman or the man we're looking for, just a possibility.
