This robust American Empire Tea Set came across my desk this week. I’d never come across the mark before, though the maker (retailer more likely) is listed in Paul von Khrum’s Silversmiths of New York City 1684-1850. I did a little digging and was able to flesh out some basic biographical info:
Achilles Tallman (1808-1834), working 1829-1833
Born: 18 Aug 1808, New York, NY, son of Harmanus Tallman (1772- 1826) and Ann/Nancy/Mary Coleman (1774-1864)
Christened: 2 Oct 1808, Reformed Dutch Church, Sugar Loaf St., New York, NY
Listed: 1829-1831 54 Fulton; 1832-1833 52 Fulton. Watchmaker.
Died: 22 Jan 1834, New York, New York, 34 Morton St.; buried at Snyder Cemetery, Valley Cottage, Rockland Co. NY
No question (but comments/info welcome) - just though I’d share.
