J. Baldwin: Jabez C. or his brother Jedediah?

Postby WarrenKundis » Sun Aug 17, 2014 1:04 pm

Jabez Baldwin and his wife Lydia had two sons who both became silversmiths. Jabez C. and Jedediah both worked in Massachusetts. How do we tell their marks and their particular styles apart?

Give you a few more details of this 9.125" (23.177cm) serving spoon. Did each brother have his own individual style of engraving? Certainly possible.

Here is the image of Jedediah Baldwin's makers mark taken from American Silversmiths with permission. It then appears that the mark above is in fact that of Jabez C Baldwin. Would anyone else concur with these findings?
