There was an American silversmith named John B. McFadden located in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania who did make spoons in the mid 1800's. However, I don't know how he marked his pieces.

2209patrick, I have a spoon by McFadden (?). It is marked "J.B.McFadden" and "Pittsburgh". Would appear to be coin silver.

Thanks

Thanks for the contributions, people.
The references always seem to show the Pittsburg silversmith marking his pieces with JB McFadden
so I'm not sure if this is the same McFadden firm or not,
especially as the fake British hallmarks are not shown in the references for him,
and seem to resemble some marks shown for Canadian silversmiths.

Photo lost, but see later entry on McFadden suggesting he was a watchmaker/retailer. Normally referred to as a silversmith (including Pittsburg sources of late 1800's), definitive evidence of this is not yet seen posted. It is known that at least one item was marked by a silversmith as "made for" the McFadden firm, suggesting they had outside sources at least in part. Here is one McFadden mark:
