Appleton Silver - Can't find anything on it

See the attached pics. No other marks on the silver pieces. Best guess is c1900. Since it doesn't say Sterling, I assume it's plate.
Can't find anything on the Appleton name. Perhaps American or Canadian?

The only appleton I know of was nathaniel appleton of london and that would make it a much older piece, and i don't believe he used his full name as a hallmark. Are there any other marks, assay marks, city marks etc.?

I took another look at what I thought was a ding in one of the 2 pieces. It appears to be a backwards J, which may mean something. I did not see this mark on the other piece. Excuse the poor drawing attached. Item too small to take a photo.

You are confused about the way James Appleton and James Appleton Jr should be represented from the 1830's on.
Firstly, James Appleton and James Appleton Jr are listed in the 1834 Portland Directory with J & J in parenthesis
after each their names which leaves nothing to conclude that the pair was ever listed as J & J Appleton Jr.
Secondly, from at least the 1837 through 1846 Portland Directories, James Appleton Jr is listed as a jeweler at
James Appleton's.
