Is anyone able to identify this item for me? It is a silver? case which is about the size of a new mobile phone (Samsung U600 :D).

It has a marking on the underside which says KG or KC followed by a Japanese/Chinese symbol.

As I understand it, this item was brought over to England by a wealthy Indian family in the early to mid 1900's. It could be a cigarette case?

I am not able to get a clear shot of the marking but hope you can identify the item by the following pictures.

Any help would be greatliy appreciated.

It is a Chinese export silver card case ca.1880s. A picture of the marks would help immensely in identifying the maker.

Thanks for the reply.

After many attempts I finally got a clear enough picture. Symbol is slightly worn but this should help identify it.

Hi,
Thanks for posting it. I've seen the mark before, but do not know the maker. Perhaps someone with better refs on the subject can identify it. In the meantime, I've added the mark to the Chinese Export Marks page.
