Chinese export silver matchbox holder

Postby Alain » Wed Apr 09, 2008 11:23 am

I have this late 19th or early 20th century Chinese export silver matchbox holder which has exquisitely engraved decoration of a Chinese landscape on one side and a bird on a bamboo stem on the other. It measures 6cm x 4.2cm x 2cm and weighs 34gms. It has a partially legible Chinese export mark: 'WS'
Can you please tell me who the maker is?
Thank you!

Hi Alain,

Only a possibility, a Shanghai silversmith by the name of Woshing was known to use a WS mark followed by a Chinese character, he was working in the period 1875-1915.

Regards Trev.

Hi Alain, Hi Trev, I've just drop on in here to find some information about some kinds of antiquities for my research, and i feel like, as Alain said, it's really "#1", as well as members here. It's very useful for me. Thanks alot.
