Helping With PLAT hallmark

Post by Ajzyk »

Hello,

I bought this Platinum wedding ring back in the late 90's in NYC.
Its just hallmarked inside "PLAT" and s mirrored double sided R as show in here.
My Question to the experts in hallmarks, is it pre-80's ring or even older ring since its hallmarked just PLAT and not PT950 or pt.(with fitness mark).

Since its my wedding bank I'm Very curious about and and any help will be appreciated.

The ring's hallmarks in the photo link below

Thanks

Can you explain why you suspect the ring is pre-80's due to the "PLAT" marking?

A quick search reveals that "PLAT" is still a valid mark in the US and it is still used today. Legally it can only be used to mark platinum pieces of at least 95% purity or greater.

From personal experience, there is a platinum ring in my household which was ordered new in 2013 (yes, unfortunately near the last peak in platinum prices) from a New York based retailer and it is stamped "Plat".

I know the original owner an he was very old man,
nowadays I mostly sees Pt950 stamps.

What about the near logo? is it manufacture logo?

What about hallmark : 10%irid 90%plat? how would you estimate the time hallmark period?

Thanks for the educated answer!

Again, it seems alloys with 10% iridium and 90% platinum are still in use today and will not narrow down the date of manufacture.

The item's stylistic features and manufacturer's marks will likely provide the best clues as to when/who/where the items were made, but you will need to add the embedded photos.

Finally, I've learned how to do so.
Anyone familiar with the make's LOGO? mirrored double R? and the PLAT.
Help will be very appreciated.
