Mark on Gold Cane Handle

Hi.. Can anyone help me with this mark? It has the trefoil in a circle and small? s? in a shield. Also the 189. Seems like it could be solid gold, but I'm not sure about these marks. Thanks!

From the little I've read about the company, the trefoil indicated gold plate, but confirmation of that piece of information is probably in order.

Thank you very much. I saw on a search of Simons Brothers that the trefoil above the maker mark is likely gold-filled. Thanks! :)
