Request for hallmark identification - silver chain fob

Post by Gemmi »

Hi,

I would really appreciate if someone could give me some information on a hallmark on a small silver chain fob (silver skull). I'm not even sure it's french but it's very similar to french maker marks that I found on this site.

Thanks,

Forgot to mention, there's another mark on the ring, but I can't recognize anything in it... I think the maker's mark shows an "S", some kind of bird and maybe a "C". On http://www.silvercollection.it/frenchsilversmithsS.html I found "S.et.Cie. un canard debout 1898 Souchet (& Cie) " (without picture) where 'canard debout' means standing duck. Could that be the maker I'm looking for?

I think you're right about the maker. The other mark I can't make out.

Thanks for your input, lemecdutex. I wonder where the cited website obtained the information regarding the maker or the look of their marks, respectively...

The reference for your mark is the French Ministry of Culture database for Paris makers registered after 1878. Unfortunately, there isn’t much info about Souchet, or a picture of the mark.

http://www2.culture.gouv.fr/public/mistral/marque_fr

The second mark you show is the boar’s head silver standard mark used on small objects.

Hope this helps.

@JayT

Many thanks, this is really great, I'm very grateful! So cool they have that official database. I think I'll send them the photo of the mark, so maybe they'll add it to the database.
