84 hallmark on cloisonne piece of jewellery

Postby Silbersammler » Fri Aug 27, 2010 2:15 am

Hello,
on a very nice cloisonne piece of jewellery is a hallmark, that looks like a second kokoshnik mark. But no letter and untypical head (in my opinion). So I think, this is not a russian item. Any ideas about the origin???
Each assistance to clear this mystery would be very welcome.
Kind regards
Steffen

You are right in your opinion. Most likely it is a rather newly made piece to fool buyers to believe it's made in Imperial Russia before 1917. The assayer's mark is a lousy "copy" of the original mark. There are lots of such cloisonneé pieces with dubious marks on the market. And the origin?????????? Sorry.

Have a nice day anyway :-)

@ QRT.S: thank you very much for your kind answer. This item does not belong to me, I have unfortunately only one picture of the stamp. Perhaps I get still another picture of the whole piece. It is 2 kg heavily and from a very good quality, probably also very old. Nobody would make itself today the work to falsify such a thing. Helmet from silver, covered with cloisonne email, in the back long chains from silver such as hair. Surely a traditional costume. I can imagine that the piece comes from Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan, perhaps from there the similarity to the Russian hallmark. But only an assumption, I am no expert here, so my question in this forum.

P.S.: Have not forgotten the hallmarks on the Cloisonne-Box, but had still no time, sorry.

Well...old or not but what are the marks in the maker's mark? What I think I see is an 8, an E and the Cyrillic soft mark. It doesn't make any sense to me. A strange piece with strange marks....?? It would be nice to see the whole thing. Maybe somebody else could explain it more.

No problem, an interesting piece with an oriental touch, but I',m afraid that it does not change my previous statement. The marks seems dubious to me. Please note that this is only my personal opinion.

have a nice day
