Walker & Hall Date Codes

Postby aclfan » Mon Jun 25, 2007 11:40 pm

Hello,

I hope this is posted in the right place. I have a Southern Railway of England small silverplate spoon with the following underneath:

Walker & Hall spelled out
an S in a circle
a lower case n in a diamond
W&H ina pennant

I have figured out everything except the date code. What year was this spoon made? I know this railroad operated from 1921 to 1948.

This spoon is part of my railroad collection, I am asking for information to better display and interpret this piece.

thanks,

Larry Neal

Hello Larry,

Walker & Hall used a lower case n in 1931, but it was not in a diamond it was in a cut cornered shield. Could this be what you have?

No, this is definitely a diamond shape. Did Walker & hall use the diamond shape for any year to date silverplate flatware?

Thanks,

I have known instances where the shield deviates. I can only assume that this is one of them. The pattern of the flatware might be another clue. Any chance of a picture?
