Info needed on Kann & Sons Mfg Co

Postby asvrjcek » Sun May 20, 2007 2:44 pm

I am a causal collector, picking up pieces at yard sales. I recently purchased a creamer at a local yard sale and on the bottom it is marked as follows: KANN & SONS MFG CO [going in a circular way] QUADRUPLE and unerneath that word there is a shape that likes like a KITE [according to my 12 yr old] and underneath that it says PLATE and then underneath that it says BALTO. On top of all of that is a hand-engraved number which is 525.

The piece is very tarnished and I don't know whether or not I should have it cleaned up or not. [admin edit - waylander] Can someone help me with this also.

I wish I could provide pictures of the above, however, my camera just doesn't take the pictures all that well. Trust me I have tried to take pics of the markings and they are just not showing up well and it is so hard trying to explain what I see.

I am trying to get more information on the company and to see where I could go to research the piece further. I have already tried several websites before finding you all and to be honest, I just don't know where else to look.

If anyone out there can help me, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.[/code]

The mame changed to Kann & Sons Mfg. Company in 1885.
From 1899 to 1913 the name of the firm was Kann Brothers Silver Company.
